Hair Tips for Growth & Maintenance

Men and women, if you wear your hair short and brush your hair regularly, please exercise caution if you are attempting to grow your hair back from hair loss.  We’ve all seen it before, males brushing their hair rigorously for brush waves or to straighten out their wave pattern.  We’ve heard this too, “I am losing my hair in the hair line, can your product help?”  Yes it can!  If you are using the Old Fashioned Hair Growth Formula to grow your hair back, please be careful not to brush your hair (scalp) too rigorous.  If you are not careful, you could pull out your newly grown hair from the root causing a never ending cycle.  Be extra gentle with that area of hair loss/growth so that it will grow back and stay in place.

If your hair needs some rejuvenation, try this Coconut Oil Hair Mask.
  It will make enough for 1 head of medium to long hair. Add more or less of the oils depending on hair length and thickness.

                3 tablespoons organic virgin coconut oil

                2 tablespoons olive oil*

                1 packet (2.5 teaspoons) unflavored gelatin

Coconut oil moisturizes the scalp and hair, while the olive oil conditions them. The gelatin is rich in protein,
so it's very repairative
to the hair, which is mainly made of protein itself.
  *You may, also, substitute the olive oil for 2 tablespoons of the Old Fashioned - Liquid Hair Growth Formula to add extra maintenance and growth benefits.

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and mix well. Apply to entire head of dry hair. (Dry hair is essential
for better absorption.) Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes. It will be messy and may drip, so put on a plastic cap to contain the oil and create a warming effect.  You may, also, sit under a dryer for better processing of the hair. Shampoo and condition your hair as usual.

If you have been a regular visitor to this website or social media pages, you should have seen a list of foods
to incorporate in your diet to aid in healthy hair.  Well, here is a list of foods to avoid: Junk food, i.e., chips, sweets, cakes, cookies, aerated drinks (soda
or carbonated drinks). Avoid alcohol, caffeine, soy protein
shakes that requires hexane, high cholesterol foods and foods that are high in saturated fats, i.e. fried foods, common salt (try using salt that contains iodine for cooking purpose since iodine is good for hair), stay away from food items that contain artificial flavors and anything containing chemical sweeteners. Basically, anything
that is pre-packaged, synthetic or chemically processed or unnatural is not good for healthy hair.

The week before you color you hair, make sure to condition your hair very well (especially the ends) so that
they won't absorb too much color during the process. Why? The ends of your hair are usually the most porous and have a tendency to soak up a lot of
color quickly and excess processing could cause damage.

Did you know you can make your own leave in hair conditioner?
  Put 3 parts water with 1 part of your favorite conditioner together
in a spray bottle. Shake well and spray on your hair.
  Style your hair as you desire and save money while doing so.

To minimize damage, try not to leave your blowdryer in one spot for more than a few seconds. Keep it moving
and at a good distance away from your hair.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For better hair days, the best thing you can do is -- nothing. All the tugging, combing, brushing, drying, and
chemically treating of
hair damages the shafts.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Avoid using hair styling products with alcohol. It dries out hair.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To minimize damage while detangling or before blow drying, start by combing your hair gently at the ends to get any tangles out
and work your way up to the base of your hair.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Use a leave in conditioner; it will hydrate and protect your hair. A leave in conditioner on your hair is the
equivalent of moisturizer
on your face.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A healthy lifestyle will mean healthier hair for you. Excessive stress, smoking, not exercising and not
eating nutritiously are not
healthy for your hair.
With that being said, if you want healthy hair, you must be healthy!
We all know the risks we face by exposing our skin to the sun's rays. While skin cancer isn't a concern for
our hair, the sun can damage it with prolonged exposure. UVA and UVB rays have the power to damage the hair from the cuticle to the inner structure
of the hair.
  Faded hair color, dry or brittle hair, split ends,  frizzy or thinning hair are a few signs of possible sun damage. You can protect your hair by wearing a hat to block the sun’s exposure to your hair.  You can, also, deep condition weekly, use a leave in conditioner or even dilute SPF sunblock with water and apply a little (not a lot, but a light mist with a spray bottle) to your hair.  Additionally, Shea butter has natural sun screen properties.  You can use that as well if you have it on hand. During these hot
summer days, we all need to take measures to protect our skin and our hair.
While headbands, braids and barrettes are cute on a baby, please utilize these styles in moderation. Placing
a headband on a baby puts pressure around the edges of their little scalp.  It could cause irritation and they may scratch and pull.  Your baby may start off with a growth problem around their edges at an early age because of this practice.  Braids…not too tight.  It is nothing more upsetting than to see a baby with tight braids and an irritated scalp with little red bumps.  I used to lightly twist my girls’ hair at the roots and braid it loosely at the ends.  If you do this, it will ensure their gentle hair will not come out from the roots.  Too many barrettes can weigh their delicate hair down causing the hair to come out at the roots.  At an early age, start them out with gentle scalp massages, conditioning shampoo and simple vitamins for their hair like those in our Toddler’s Hair Growth Formula.  It is all you need to ensure that your baby will have a full head of healthy hair as they grow.
Want to enhance your hair growth?
  Try this….Drink plenty of water!  Did you know that water makes up approximately ¼ the weight of hair?  Yes, it does.  Drinking lots of water helps to keep your body and your hair hydrated, thus yielding a healthier body and healthier hair.  Healthier hair produces hair growth.  Keep in mind that if your body is dehydrated, your hair will be dry causing breakage and damage.  So put down that soda and pour yourself a tall glass of water!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Use an ammonia free permanent hair color.
  If ammonia is in permanent hair color, it causes the hair to become very porous (spongy) and dry.  Instead, opt for a conditioning hair color application.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Keep a steady regimen with your hair.
  Your hair depends on you to give it nutrients when needed.  Whatever you do, make sure
you do it on the same day and keeping with the same schedule of products.
  If you do this, your hair won’t be off balanced and neglected.   Just like a child, your hair will go the way you have trained it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Never short change your hair.  Always use a conditioner after you shampoo.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Use a wide-toothed comb when grooming your hair. Wide-toothed combs (or combs specially made for
detangling) are less likely
to grab the hair which leads to breakage.
   Additionally, bristled brushes are not recommended because of their tendency to grab
the hair and that contributes to hair breakage also.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A scalp massage is good for your health and it’s good for your hair!
  It relieves tension and stress because it stimulates the nerves and blood vessels beneath the skin while calming muscle tension around the head.  It is also helpful to relieve migraines.  You should know that a healthy scalp is an essential part of hair growth and maintenance. Create a healthy scalp by enjoying a good scalp massage.  Your health and your hair will thank you!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of the most common causes of hair breakage is excessive stretching or traction.
  Hair subjected to excessive chemical processes, sun exposure and chlorine exposure may also exhibit breakage.  With all  that being said, wet hair is more fragile than dry hair.  So exercise extra caution when combing, brushing or styling hair while wet.
Illness and lack of necessary vitamins and minerals can affect hair and hair growth. Use the Old Fashioned
Hair Growth Formula, made with vitamins, minerals and plant oils, to overcome this obstacle and achieve the hair growth you desire.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Cotton can cause damage, dryness and breakage to your hair.
  Try sleeping in a satin bonnet or using satin sheets & pillowcases.  This simple change will go a long way with protecting your strands.  Why not try both?  If your bonnet comes off,
you have your pillowcase as a backup.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When blow drying your hair, finalize it in the cool setting.
  Finishing your hair in the cool or cold setting helps to provide it with elasticity and minimizes damage.  It locks in the shine and makes your hair smooth.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sew-in weaves and braids are good protective styles to wear while growing your hair.
  Be careful not to have your braids too tight because it may pull your hair from the roots.  You may wind up thinning or breaking off your hair or even creating bald spots, which is the exact opposite of what you are trying to accomplish.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
More than any other hair type, less heat and pressure should be applied to fine hair to avoid breakage.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Keep a good habit of cleaning your flat irons, curlers, pressing combs, brushes, combs, scarves, hair wraps,
pillow cases, etc. when you wash your hair.  Eliminating bacteria, residue and build up is critical to maintaining a healthy scalp and hair.  It is essential to hair growth and proper maintenance of your strands.  More tips like this are available at www.fb.com/imakehairgrow or www.twitter.com/imakehairgrow.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do not brush your hair prior to any chemical applications. It may cause abrasions to your scalp which could
lead to infection.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

When shampooing and conditioning your hair, avoid using hot water. Hot water strips the natural oils from
your hair and scalp.
